Drilling Compromise

Democrats are finally coming to realize that more drilling is necessary. The Politico reports that Democratic and Republican leaders are negotiating a compromise on energy matters. The compromise is expected to include more off shore drilling along with an end to speculative buying. Also Democratic leaders are hoping to include a guarantee that the newly drilled oil will be sold in the United States and not exported.

I'm all for this compromise. If it opens more areas to drilling and also ends the speculative paper buying we would see a huge decrease in the price of gasoline at the pump. I know, I know, my Democratic friends are going to say that more drilling only leads to Big Oil making more money and then donating more to Republicans. Yes that is true. And though more drilling won't have an immediate impact on pricing, it will over time shift our demand on Saudi oil to American oil. Let Big Oil donate to the GOP. It's just about the only donors they have left. A sound energy policy is much more important than worrying about the political issues of who's donor gets what. Ending speculation would do more to bring prices down than more drilling. It's a compromise that's well worth it in my book. And since it makes so much sense, I don't see Harry Reid doing it.
