Even before the Dems took over Congress in 2006 I said it would be worth it if for no other reason than to have oversight power restored to the federal government. Today a federal judge indeed supported that power by ordering White House aides can be subpoenaed.
What's better is the federal judge who ruled against the Bush White House is a Republican judge appointed by none other than George Bush himself in 2001 and appointed to the FISA court in 2006 by Chief Justice Roberts. (h/t Think Progress)
The White House argued that presidential aides were immune from congressional subpoenas citing Executive Privilege. The federal judge today ordered aides were not immune and are required to testify before congress.
What next? I'm sure the White House will keep balking and probably say that White House aides are not part of the executive or not part of government or are really not American citizens at all and instead are some sort of mutant superhero tough guy warrior patriots only answerable to God.
