Lying To Win

Over recent weeks the McCain Campaign has consistently relied upon many half-truths and stretches of the truth to keep his campaign afloat. My first recollection of one of his first intentional distortions was when he said he would veto every single pork barrel spending bill. That stretch of the truth was in 2007; early on in his campaign for the White House. However, not only is such a feat impossible, McCain later backtracked to limit his vetoes to bills not containing pork money to Israel. And then in April of this year said he would determine spending cuts on a needs basis. And then again, McCain admitted that he wasn't against pork spending but the process.

All within a years time McCain went from pledging to veto any bill containing earmarks to only vetoing bills that don't have aid to Israel, to judging earmarks on a needs basis, to not being opposed to pork at all just the process.

Like I said, that's my first recollection of McCain's intentional stretches of the truth. There's no way possible for a president McCain to veto every single pork spending bill. And he has no intentions of doing it. Ignoring his complete reversals on the matter, even as recently as last week McCain again admitted that he would veto every single pork spending bill. Inconsistent is no longer a word to describe him.

That's just one matter, however. As the campaigns have slogged on, the McCain Camp has become even more dependent upon an aversion to the truth. McCain has went from relying upon half-truths to relying upon complete lies. His television ads have been yanked from internet sites and debunked continuously. But since adding Sarah Palin to the ticket the lies have grown more absurd and more frequent.

This is all within the last week:
  • McCain Camp has consistently lied that Sarah Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere. She did not. She supported the Bridge, lobbied for it and accepted the federals funds to build the project. It was only after the feds pulled the plug on it and told her that she would have to use state money to build it did she begin to oppose it. She didn't kill it. The feds did.
  • McCain Camp began running an ad as despicable as any ad has ever been in American politics.
  • McCain himself said Sarah Palin knows more about energy than anyone else in America. As big of a lie as anyone could possibly tell.
  • McCain tells the media that Sarah Palin NEVER sought money from lawmakers. Big Fat Liar! Palin has requested over $750 million in earmarks. She even wrote a letter to the editor stating her job as governor was "to submit the most well-conceived earmark requests we can” and that her reduction of requests was a response “to the changing circumstances in Congress," and not out of any repulsion towards pork spending.
  • McCain Camp now has undertaking a new twist with lies about their crowd sizes.
To sum up how infused the McCain Camp is with lying yesterday McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said:

We're running a campaign to win. And we're not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.
With that said, it's extremely obvious the McCain Campaign is lying to win. It's their only hope. A campaign based on truths about the last 8 years and how a McCain-Palin ticket would govern would implode.

The real story, however, is this is a campaign based on lies and yet the media is reluctant to come close to the narrative that such an operation calls into judgment the persona of John McCain.
