If you haven’t read the Washington Times’ “Big Government Gets Bigger” article yet you should give it a quick look. On the same note of small government and fiscal conservatism, it’s interesting to note that mega-reformer Sarah Palin has spent $150,000 on clothing in the last month. I didn’t realize pageant dresses were so expensive. But it doesn’t stop there. She also made it a habit to bill the government for her children’s expenses. “The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel,” reports the AP.In less than two years she billed tax payers over $21,000 of travel expenses for her daughters. It’s totally understandable that a mother bring her children along especially younger ones. But the oldest daughter really doesn’t need her mother’s supervision and judging from her unwed teenage prego belly supervision sounds really perverse. But let’s put this in context we can all understand. I have a tax payer funded job comparable to Sarah Palin. If my job sends me away to a conference there is nothing against my wife coming too. But if she does she has to pay for her own plane ticket and her own meals. I can’t bill the state for her travel. And that’s just what Sarah Palin has done, over $21,000 worth of travel. That goes for all tax payers not just me and Sarah Palin. But Sarah Palin went a step further than that even. She billed tax payers for her daughters to attend their father's races. That's not even government business.
This is the modern GOP. Small government to them simply means privatized slush funds for our Leaders. They can’t possibly be taken seriously on fiscal matters. This is Bush Policy, the continuation of his government in every way, shape and form.
*Update:
Sarah Palin responds to $150,000 wardrobe: "This is not who we are...[i]f people only knew how frugal we are." Frugal in terms that the $150k was only for a campaign. Imagine what she would spend if she had the federal budget at her control.
