Historical Accuracy

A little something rare happened today in D.C. No it wasn't Bush giving a press conference, it was the Smithsonian acknowledging an inaccuracy in the caption to the George W. Bush portrait.

Currently on view at the Smithsonian is the presidential portrait of George W. Bush and Mrs. Bush. The caption to the president's portrait read something like "Bush's term was marked by 'the attacks on September 11, 2001, that led to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.'" No big deal to most visitors. But not entirely accurate. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and the American invasion in 2003 was purely a war of choice by George Bush.

Thanks to pressure by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) the Smithsonian has agreed to revise the label and delete the words "led to." A small but crucial revision.
