Many media outlets are reporting some sort of a deal in the senate for a $780 billion stimulus package. Notice this is a slimmed down version of the Democratic House bill but a larger version of the original President Obama version. Elana Schor, whom I've found to be remarkable in her coverage of this, reports tonight that even though a deal seems to have been struck a vote has not been scheduled yet.
It appears, at least from what I can tell, the votes are there to pass this thing but Republicans will opt to stall as long as possible. The longer they stall the economic news just keeps getting worse and worse. Almost 2 million jobs lost since November. Stalling is the worst thing they could do but really all they have left.
