There are some real simple issues to point out about the GOP's stance on torture. It's the same as it is with anything else that Republicans have anything to do with. Talking about torture makes them feel tough. That's it. They feel tough when they tell people not to mess with us because we either will kill you or torture you to the point you'd wish we had killed you. It's the same thing when talking about Forever War or about making government smaller and everything in-between. They feel macho and their psychological disorder that anyone who can't out macho them is weak is what motivates them to wake up every morning.
It's so obvious that we have moved so far from the point in the conversation about the morality of torture to the very acceptance that torture was a state-sanctioned policy of the United States. Republicans are mad because President Obama has declared torture out of the question, not that torture is immoral. How did we get to this point?? If Republicans want to have a debate on torture then I'm all for it.
