The Specter of Politics

There is something entirely disingenuous about Arlen Specter's Party switch. I read once that in 1980 he first ran as a Republican not because of any loyalty to Republican core principles of big government, fiscal irresponsibility and war without end, but because he didn't really want to mess with Democratic primaries in Pennsylvania (they tend to get rather messy). As it seems, Party politics are something he's never been a big fan of. That can be respectable for most people but unless you want to be an Independent and he has that option, Party politics comes with the territory. Maybe Specter can be summed up as being his own man, and if you include that to mean all the self-serving perks along with it, then I would agree with you. Right now I'd like to see Specter get beat in the Democratic primary. I'm also willing to bet Specter is either going to support the president's agenda or not even bother with that primary.
