Though this one calendar year really doesn't hit the entirety of job creation/losses we have been through this decade. From 2001-2009, the American economy for the first time since records have been kept, had a net job loss of 298,000. Compare that to a net gain of 23 million the previous decade, and you can really see the depth of just how bad the last 8 years of have been. I don't see how we can sustain another year like the last 8.
