Yes, They Are That Dumb

Another Republican U.S. senate candidate, this time in Arizona, also has a little problem with American history. Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), who is challenging Sen. John McCain in the Republican primary, said that the United States did not formally declare war on Germany in World War II. His factually inept statement was a response to a questioner at a GOP event in which Hayworth was quizzed about executive power and our modern mindset of the declaration of war.

Hayworth responded:
"But I would also point out, that if we want to be sticklers, the war that Dwight Eisenhower led in Europe against the Third Reich was never declared by the United States Congress," said Hayworth. "Recall, the Congress passed a war resolution against Japan. Germany declared war on us two days later. We never formally declared war on Hitler's Germany, and yet we fought the war."
And this guy wants to be a U.S. Senator?  What's next, a Republican stating the Civil Rights Act wasn't necessary and could have been handled locally??  Yes we declared war on Germany.  We also declared war on Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.  How he could not know this is beyond me.
