Not Raising the Debt Ceiling Will Still Raise the Debt

I think there's a bit of confusion-- imagine that-- in the debt ceiling debate/fiasco. The debate is being portrayed in such a way that people think if we don't raise the debt ceiling then we won't incur anymore debt. But that's not true at all. We will keep adding to the national debt just like we have for 40 years. What will happen is we will default on that debt. In other words, we won't be paying our bills. And if we don't pay our bills the national debt will skyrocket much faster than it would otherwise.

So by not raising the debt ceiling we will actually cause the national debt to rise quicker than we would if we just raised it like we always have. Raising the debt limit of the nation is a routine measure of Congress. So common that it happens numerous times throughout multiple presidencies and sessions of Congress.

If you hear someone say, which I have numerous times, that we shouldn't raise the debt ceiling because we don't need any new debt, they are stupid.  They've been duped by the masquerading politics of the conversation.  Not raising the debt ceiling will explode the debt quicker than George Bush could hop a plane to Crawford.
