As you can see, we have a new look. We're not finished with it just yet. Still have some things to add and we're not too sure if the comments are working properly. Also, the label/category thing doesn't appear to be working either. For the most part, though, it's taking shape just fine.
There's still a lot of work to finish so I won't bore you too much with the details. Just expect some more changes to take shape really soon. Thanks for reading.

House Cleaning Items
It's interesting to note that while the site was left vacant, to say the least, that we still had plenty of traffic. Actually, traffic was only down about 3%. In the past when I've had to halt posting, traffic plummeted So I got to thinking what changed this time. Turns out, two of the most trafficked posts this site gets are still in wide circulation all across teh internets: "Country Music Has Plenty of Democrats" and "No President Added More Debt Than Bush," each generate about 600 hits every day. And if you add our third most popular post, "We Were Wrong Once, And Young," with a respective 560 hits/day then it would seem we should never have to post again. Alas, though, the intertubes cry out for us and we shall continue to make the right wing look even dumber than they do themselves. Onward and Upward.

So much going on lately I've been nonexistent on my blog. It's a shame I can't keep it going anymore.

The Fold Blog is still alive. Had some stuff come up last week, mostly personal in nature. Way too long to explain here but life is a crazy thing and change is the only certainty.
Summer
I do apologize for the abrupt stoppage in posts. I went on vacation for a few days. I didn't go anywhere. Mainly just stayed home and spent some time with the family. Every time I sat down to do some writing I got bothered by other things. It was a good break though. It was actually nice not knowing what was going on around the world. It was nice staying off the internet. And it was really nice not reading newspapers.
Alas, it's time to re-engage for as much as I do strive to not care, I can't help but apply some halfhearted attempt at society.

Comments Again
Still having trouble with the new Disqus commenting. Imagine that.
Comments, again, appear to be showing up and then disappearing at will. We'll give Disqus some time to work out the bugs but we won't wait forever.

Be patient with the comment system. It seems comments are disappearing and reappearing at will. Not what we were hoping for.
Commenting Updates
The Fold Blog has been invited to upgrade to the new Disqus 2012 commenting system. Disqus 2012 is a major update to the Disqus commenting platform. We're looking forward to its benefits.
As best as I can tell, we've been using Disqus for 3 years. We've had our ups and downs with it but overall I am very happy with its performance. One of our main reasons for sticking with Disqus was its ability to customize. Because of this, we tried to make our commenting system look a little different than what you would see on other sites utilizing the same platform. It might not have been a night and day experience but there were some differences.
As it turns out, the new Disqus 2012 does not allow customization. I think I'm okay with that for the time being. I'm willing to give it a chance to see how much better the new integration will be. The new system, in our view, has three new features that surpass the ability to customize: 1) Total SEO Compatibility, 2) Frictionless realtime, and 3) more user driven and traffic oriented.
If you notice any kinks or have any complaints please let us know. Our next phase, if the new Disqus doesn't work out is to move to IntenseDebate. We've been researching it and are quite interested, in addition to hearing lots of good feedback about it. For now, however, Disqus 2012 is our choice. We hope to stay. End of Year Cleaning
As we approach another new year and yet another presidential election, I wanted to pause for a brief moment and look back at TFB over the years.
I began this blog in the summer of 2008. It was a presidential year just like 2012. And it was a way for me to participate in political conversations outside of the boring passerby chat with friends. Since that time the blog has changed dramatically. I remember in 2008 having a very vivid Poll Center up and working that tracked numerous polls throughout the country. I also remember having a McCain fact-check running continuously. I'm not sure if we'll do all that this cycle or not. There's still a long way to go before November and the best bet is to wait and see who the president will be running against and to wait and see the new technology for polling in terms of html that will be available for me to steal.
In the meantime, I want to take a quick look back at where the blog has come and where we might be going.
As you can see from the chart below, readership has come full circle.
We have finally surpassed our avg. daily page views as set in 2008. My reasoning is that once again the presidential race is approaching us and naturally a political blog is going to increase in hits. Or at least that's the plan for having a political blog. I hope to see us get 10,000 page views a day by November. I realize that might be asking a lot for a blog that is less than part-time.
As some of you know, I work full time. I do some consulting on the side. I'm an assistant editor on another blog. I'm married. I have two-year old twin boys at home. I'm a very busy guy. I have help with the blog from some friends but for the most part it's just me. So there are some weeks I can do 10 hours of work for the blog and other weeks I don't have 1 hour to spare. This might change for the new year. It's hard to say really. Or it's possible I will have less time than ever and have to hang it up once again. My goal, though, is to tough it out for the year. Expand on contributor posts and to even dare touch upon another Polling Center.
