McCain's Privates Problem

There aren't many issues that I would consider myself bound to. Social Security, however, is one of them. Much the same way abortion opponents couldn't vote for a pro-choice candidate, I don't think I could vote for someone that wanted to privatize Social Security. If there is one issue that makes me a single issue voter I suppose it's that one.

Good thing John McCain is both for private accounts and against them. At least that keeps my options open if Barack Obama comes out in favor of privatizing Social Security. I'll know I still have the maverick to turn to.

When McCain says he's in favor of young people putting a few dollars into private accounts, I wonder how much a few is. Also, what about people, like him, who don't pay into Social Security. Do they still get to take a few dollars and put into some sort of government backed private savings system? Many questions left unanswered on this one. Finding ways to fund our current system before embarking on new ones seems much more logical to me.
