A Senate Intelligence Report released this morning concludes that during the run up to the invasion of Iraq the Bush administration knowingly made claims that were not backed up by intelligence reports.
Here's the report.
Republicans and right wing chickenhawks are going to cry, whine, stomp, pout and throw hissy fits that this report is a Democratic ploy and a biased politically partisan rendition of the Iraq war to discredit President Bush. Fox News will call the team together to get their talking points straight about how Dems were also pushing for and voting for the war. It will be dismissed as political tripe by the right wing. However, the Repubs have nothing to cry about.
This is the first bit of congressional oversight since Bush has been in office. Not one time has Bush had to consult congress on anything. They've viewed themselves as royalty and the for the first 6 years the GOP controlled congress was more than happy to let incompetency and outright lies abound. Not one single bit of congressional oversight during an entire presidency. And now finally the president is being held to the Constitution.
When the Democrats setup independent counsels with unlimited budgets and subpeona powers to investigate Bush, then the Republicans will have something to whine about. With seven months left of Bush, I don't see that happening. This one small bit of congressional oversight is nothing especially compared to what the Republicans put President Clinton through. Yet they will whine and cry and stomp around only proving their hypocrisy.
