This struck me as odd at first. Obama is attracting thousands upon thousands to his rallies while McCain has to move events to smaller locations so as not to appear half full. Wouldn't the last thing McCain and the GOP wanted is to have a joint public gathering? Apparently not. If I was Obama I would definitely take McCain up on this. I'm not saying that McCain isn't a good debater because he is. But Obama can seize the moment like no other. Unless they are openly debating at an AARP meeting I don't see how McCain is going to excite anyone.
Of course consider that McCain has no money and really has very poor prospects at keeping up with Obama's fund raising. So what's the best way to attract free media? Have a series of town hall debates full of every media type in the world. Free media is really the only way McCain can possibly keep up with Obama's media buying power.
Accept two or three but not 10.
