Correcting the GOP

Many in the right wing have been having a heyday with a very misconstrued Obama phrase. McCain has even run an ad featuring the phrase. And Fox News and its circle jerk have spent endless hours repeating the phrase over and over again.

Here's the proper quote:

"It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign -- that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It's about America. I have just become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions"

The right wing is using the quote to suggest Obama said he was a symbol of America or American greatness, or that he's a symbol.

The right wing wants to forget no one used symbolism more than Reagan but when a Democrat does it they're the anti-Christ.
  • Reagan Became a Symbol of America
  • George W. Bush: "Reagan Became an Enduring Symbol of Our Country," June 2004.
Also, one must remember in the Republican psyche Reagan is indeed a symbol of which is only attainable by other Republicans and no one else. They don't view this as hypocrisy but as perfectly acceptable reality. Hypocrisy to them is the belief that things can be better than what they are now under George W. Bush.
