One of the maniac examples right wingers uses to label Obama as a socialist is their claim that he wants to redistribute wealth. One of their arguing points is Obama’s support of a windfall profits tax on Big Oil. This, the GOP claims, is a redistribution of wealth program. The irony here is almost too much.
As Governor, Sarah Palin imposed none other than a windfall profits tax on Big Oil and used the money to spread rebates to tax payers. She took the wealth of the Big Oil companies and spread it around to the state. Now that’s far from socialism and anyone who knows anything about politics and political ideology would know that. But Republicans want people to believe because Obama supports a windfall profits tax and a progressive tax policy that he’s a socialist. When Republicans do it, it’s a very serious and smart way to run government. When Democrats do it they are socialists.
It doesn’t stop there, however. Read Sarah Palin’s very own description of her very non-socialist redistribution of wealth program she implemented in Alaska.
Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.
In her own words she described her program as a way for people to “share in the wealth” of other people’s profits. She described it as collectivization, a very Marxist term. Obama said we need to spread the wealth and that makes him a socialist. Palin says we need to share the wealth and that collectivization is good and she’s a very serious, patriotic, capitalistic American. Denial is often present right before the end.
