I don't care what anyone says and Hannity can claim that he is all day long, but Sean Hannity is not a journalist. He is a Republican talk show host/entertainer and he should never be granted such access to an American president. Or if he is granted access, it should be portrayed as the spoof that it is. The journalistic equivalent to an interview by Sean Hannity is George Bush granting the
same access to Jon Stewart of the Daily Show. That is Hannity's level of expertise. That is the same objectivity Hannity produces.I watched some of the make-believe Fantasy World interview last night while at the gym working out. It was filled with make-believe patriotic innuendo about 9/11 and keeping America safe. Then this morning I read where Bush says the American president's biggest priority is keeping America safe, as if he's the only president to ever keep America safe.
If I recall correctly, every president has kept us safe. Not since 1814 have foreign troops occupied the American homeland. And even then the invasion was repelled. In comparison George Bush has done what every other president has done, kept us safe. Also in comparison, the worst attack on the American homeland came under George Bush's watch. If we consider that as keeping us safe then he failed worse than any president in history. The right-wing Republican talking point that Bush has kept us safe is easily debunked when we realize that every president did that, even the bad ones.
In the World of the right-wing, we need strong, macho men to keep us safe because people are not able to provide for their own security and are vulnerable to attack by evildoers. Without these tough, cowboy, Dick Cheney types America will cease to exist. The only thing wrong with that train of thought is that it defies every historical episode in American history. George Bush did no more to keep us safe than Millard Fillmore.
