In a move reminiscent of Bush era power grabs, the Obama administration is planning to ask Congress to delay terror suspects' probable cause hearings as a way to allow interrogators additional time for questioning before the individual is informed of their rights or shown to a judge.
Congress is expected to go along with the change.
Who's to say the administration, or any administration since this will be a power every president will cherish, won't label any person or group they disagree with as terrorism? Aren't those on the right wing who want to remove Obama from office or believe he isn't a legitimate citizen terrorists, or at least can easily be labeled that way. What would prevent the administration from "delaying" them of their Constitutional rights guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment?
The line between public safety and executive power cannot be so blurred that the Oval Office gets to decide how individual cases will be treated by the justice system. Why don't we just repeal the Fifth Amendment and be done with this whole episode?
