Fear on the Ballot

I want to be clear on this. Even if Republicans take back the house and senate this Fall there is no chance in all the world they would be able to repeal or amend the 14th Amendment. No chance.

There's a reason why the Constitution has only been amended 27 times in over 230 years. It's because it's hard to do. Amendments require 2/3 of both legislatures just for proposal. Or Amendments can be proposed by 2/3 of state legislatures, just for proposal again. Once the amendment passes proposal it then has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states by popular vote. It's complicated and a long process, and it was designed specifically to be that way.

Since the ratification of the Constitution tens of thousands of amendments have been introduced yet only 17 have ever been ratified.  Seventeen because the first 10 were original amendments, you know the Bill of Rights.  So, again, there is no chance on God's green earth that Republicans will ever do anything about the 14th Amendment.

Why the big fuss then?

It's an election year and the GOP is trying its hardest to get its base to come home.  And they are trying to appeal to people's fears once again.  They don't want to have to debate their agenda.  They don't want to have to give specifics of it.  They just want to be able to stoke fear amongst the populace and get votes.  If there is anyone out there who has a real concern about the 14th Amendment and illegals giving birth to babies in our country, you are totally out of luck.  Not a chance in the world your GOP would ever be able to what they are proposing.  To put it in a better perspective.  Their inability to do anything about the 14th Amendment is just like their campaign speeches about being God-fearing fiscal conservatives.  Both are fantasy.
