For Fox News' Republican Viewers, Ken Mehlman Coming Out Never Happened

Contrary to Fox's slogan, it's hard to decide when you don't report. Not reporting is exactly how the Republican Fox News channel gets around not telling its viewers that the man responsible for getting George Bush his second term, largely on the platform of inciting fear that Bush was led by God Almighty, was an in-the-closet homosexual.

Ken Mehlman announced two days ago that he was gay and that he could see how people would be angry with him.  The man he helped reelect to a second term in 2004 ran his campaign, at Mehlman's direction, on a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage.  Of course, after the election Bush did no such thing and rarely spoke publicly about marriage or gay issues.  His open support for amending the Constitution to discriminate against gays was entirely about turning out the Republican base and nothing more.  It was a campaign ploy designed to appeal to the wacko Christian Right and to convince people that John Kerry was an evil sinner that would destroy God's institution of marriage.  It worked.  And we still see the back draft of it today.

But in the Republican Fantasy World, it never happened.  Fox News devoted not one single mention to the story.  If the story was David Axelrod was gay, Fox would use it as a breaking headline to prove Democrats are immoral, dishonest and that Obama was elected under false pretenses.  Fox, no doubt, would have used the opportunity to smear President Obama and his administration.  For George Bush, the most watched media network in the country completely ignores it.

This should be no surprise since Fox News also pretends that Bush didn't create the trillion dollar deficit we face today.  That Bush didn't triple our national debt.  That the bailouts didn't happen until a Democrat took over.  They just ignore reality long enough for it to go away.  Their entire existence is to promote the Republican cause.
