Duncan Black, if I'm allowed to call him that, generously states the most obvious way to get the economy chugging along again.
"10-year Treasury at 2.51. As I keep saying, at rates this low it's a crime not to borrow crazy amounts and spend it on SUPERTRAINS and fixing bridges and whatnot."
It's a fact of modernity. If people aren't spending money the economy isn't growing. We have a large consumer-based economy designed around the buying and selling of goods and services. Being that our largest buyer and spender is the federal government-- actually the largest buyer and spender in the world-- it only makes sense to get it buying and spending. Conversely, the best way to make our economy dry up and shrivel is to make the world's largest buyer and spender come to halt, which is exactly what the GOP says, in the name of fiscal conservatism of course, we should do.
