"(CNN) -- The man described by counterterrorism officials as al Qaeda's "military brain," Ilyas Kashmiri, was killed in a drone strike Friday night in Pakistan, a spokesman for his group, the jihadist Harakat-ul-Jihad-Islami, said."
I was against President Obama's surge in Afghanistan. I thought we had screwed up all we could screw up in that country. 8 years of war led by George Bush had taken its toll. It was a complete lost cause. It's amazing what competent leadership can do, however.
Interesting to note, however, is how quickly Republicans are turning against their endless wars. Victories like the one above bring out more and more Republicans to either insanely try to give the credit to George Bush or to start speaking out against killing people in yet another Muslim country. Barack Obama said he would take the fight to Pakistan if need be. He would do it to fight the organization actually responsible for 9/11. And that's exactly what he's doing.
Do I support the growing war? No, I still think it's time to end it. But like it or not, the president is doing exactly what he said he would and exactly what Bush should have done a long, long time ago. Credit the man for at least doing what he said. And there's no doubt he's waged a much more compelling and successful strategy against al Qeada than the Bushies could have ever dreamed of. Again, it's amazing what competent leadership can accomplish.
