Last night Mitt Romney committed the ultimate sin. No he didn't promise to change the name of the executive mansion from White House to Compound. No he didn't admit lowering taxes lowers government revenue (yes a deplorable sin in Republican eyes). He used a teleprompter when delivering his victory speech in New Hampshire.
That's right, he routinely uses a teleprompter when delivering speeches. This is tatamount to blasphemy in the GOP. Let's recall what Jaz, a past frequenter and commenter here at TFB and huge Romney supporter had to say about politicians that use teleprompters:
The "most honest way to use prepared remarks is to have a sheet of paper in front of you. Most accomplished public speakers don't need a line by line prompting like a robot, rather they can glance down at the podium and see a series of bullet points."
This heavy reliance on teleprompters is a dead give away that Obama is a manufactured canned product essentially. He's an elaborate advertising campaign who if ever is not on script is fairly gaffe prone.
But the real problem with teleprompters is that, as a member of the audience, you feel that a scam is being perpetrated on you. The slick use of teleprompters is a calculated deception, attempting to trick the audience into believing that the speaker is reciting his words from memory, or out of some profound conviction.
Again, I'm not expecting a public speaker to have no aids whatsoever, but a prepared cheat sheet on the podium that the speaker glances down at occasionally doesn't give off the impression that the speaker is attempting to pull the wool over the eyes of the audience. Now I have no idea what Jaz thinks about Mittens' use of what he labeled as dishonest for Obama. But I'm assuming he'll give Mittens a break and probably wish he hadn't been so negative on the president the last 3 years.
Let's add teleprompter to the growing list of things Republicans used to deplore but will soon love and stress are complete examples of Patriotism:
Romney is Mexican-American; qualifies for Mexican citizenship; is a product of polygamy; belongs to a church that actually waged war against the American government; believes God lives on Planet Kolob and that the Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri; enacted an individual insurance mandate and now loves using teleprompters. Quite the list for the GOP to send down the Memory Hole and demand we never mention again.
