Not that I want to get into the rules of what is or isn't Latino because surely not everyone in Mexico is Latin or of Latin descent. That's like saying all Blacks are from Africa. Nonetheless, whether or not Mitt Romney wants to admit it, he is Mexican-American. He might not be Latino, which I guess was the questioned posed to him. But he is no doubt a direct, first generation descendent from a father that was born in Mexico.
Check out how Romney plays it off during an interview on Univision, though:
Co-host: "With a father born in Mexico, are you sure you're not Latino?"
Romney: "I think for political purposes that might have helped me here at the
University of Miami today," he said, "but as you know my dad was born of
American parents who were living in Mexico, and he came back to this
country at age 5 or 6 ... and he recognized that this is the land of
opportunity, and he has been the role model and inspiration for my whole
life."
It doesn't matter that his dad was born of American parents. By law, people born in Mexico are Mexican citizens. His father was a natural-born citizen of Mexico. That makes Mitt Romney half Mexican.
Maybe this wouldn't matter so much if for the last 5 years Republicans hadn't been making up crazy conspiracy theories that our current president isn't a citizen and legally can't be president. Mitt Romney, their very candidate, just like Obama, has a FOREIGN BORN FATHER!
All of this neglects to mention, too, that Romney's family fled to Mexico in the first place so they could practice polygamy. Yep, Romney's Grandpa sure loved them sister-wives.
