Got a feeling that I'm not going to agree with any of the Obama administration's new gun proposals.
Not that I'm against gun-control. I'm not. I just think gun laws almost always fall into the category of the 'law of unintended consequences.' Meaning, they have the opposite effect of their intentions.
I find the only reasonable proposal that would work is a buy-back program for all assault rifles and accessories. Here's why: we can outlaw assault weapons all day long and that will do nothing to get the guns off the streets. Plus, there is no way the federal government can go collect people's guns at their doorsteps. We would have a million Waco's all over the country if we tried that. The only way to get people to get rid of their assault weapons and keep them from getting on the streets and in the hands of people who intend to do harm is to compel them to turn them in for cash payment.
Other than that I have no clue about making effective gun laws. There are millions of legal assault weapons all across America today. We can't make people who own them felons. We can't go take them away from them. We can't just outlaw them and expect criminals won't eventually get them, and use them. It's a really bad situation this country finds itself in.
