In a special session of congress this afternoon Democrats successfully passed a much needed state aid bill that will create about $26 billion in aid to help schools hire and rehire teachers, pay emergency workers and cover outstanding Medicaid payments. The bill easily passed, 247-161. Senate Democrats passed the bill last week, 61-39.
The entire $26 billion package is completely paid for and scored by the CBO to reduce the deficit by $1.3 billion over ten years. Oddly enough, those who claim to be deficit hawks and fiscal conservatives opposed the bill in droves. Why? Mostly because the self-labeled conservatives have no history of ever reducing the deficit, paying for programs or doing anything that could remotely be considered conservative. Because of how our modern political system is setup, and because of how the media refuses to do any leg work, the people responsible for creating a $1.4 trillion deficit, enacting numerous pieces of legislation that were never once paid for, get to continue with the label of fiscal conservatives well into the foreseeable future.
Had at any point circa 2001-2009 Republicans ever passed anything that reduced the deficit or for that matter was actually paid for, all we would be hearing still to this day is how great and Patriotic it was when Republicans showed those tax and spend liberal terrorists how to run government.
