Professional Left Is Never Happy, But...

Yesterday I started writing something about Roberts Gibbs' remarks about what he called the "professional left" and their disagreement with the administration. Then I stopped because I agreed with both sides. Then I realized I have no clue what the "professional left" even is. I'm assuming it's academia but then again it could be people on the left with jobs, which gets fewer every month. Who knows.

The best response I've read yet, and trust me I've read plenty of overheated responses, comes from Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN).

"And why would he confuse legitimate critique with some sort of lack of loyalty. Isn't this what the far right does? Punishes people who are not ideologically aligned with President Bush?"

I'll simply add that prior to that Ellison called the "professional left" Obama's base.  I disagree with that.  They are no more Obama's base than they were Clinton's base.  Gibbs, however, is right about one thing.  They are people who are never happy.  But that's not for Gibbs to say, especially to a media source.  It's for people like me to say.  Why he would single them out is not smart.  But what he said is right.
