They Are Not Fiscal Conservatives

Given that Reagan left office with a larger deficit than when he took over and that George H. W. Bush left office with a larger deficit than what he inherited and that George W. Bush left office with a trillion dollar deficit when he inherited a huge budget surplus, common sense would tell us that the Republican Party is not the party of small government or fiscal conservatism.  It is simply the party that loves to talk about and make up lies about being budget hawks and socialist slashers.  Their perceived notion that they are fiscally conservative is a genuine self-derangement syndrome-- one the media is more than happy to go along with.

So to have bipartisan reports come out stating the very obvious fact that Romney, Santorum and Gingrich are by no means anything remotely close to being fiscally conservative shouldn't be all that big of a deal-- you know given the history of the GOP and all.  But, of course, it is a big deal because the obvious will continue to be ignored by the media and the self-righteous clowns in the GOP, and they will continue to be labeled the party of fiscal conservatism; the party of deficit hawks and small government; the party of those who are Very Serious about controlling our welfare state.  A report by The Committee For A Responsible Federal Budget demonstrating that none of the 3 leading GOP candidates for president who have all enjoyed front-runner status within the last 30 days are fiscally conservative when it comes to the federal budget will get ignored and labeled as a liberal conspiracy designed to help the gay terrorists enforce Sharia law and make women take birth control.  The fact all three tax plans submitted by the Republican trio will create larger debt per GDP than President Obama's is of no concern to the Very Serious People working hard every day to return us to the path George Bush set us on.

Bona Fide Christian Newt Gingrich Will Skip Ash Wednesday Mass

One of the holy Republicans who Rev. Franklin Graham guaranteed and verified to us was a Christian, Newt Gingrich, will skip Mass on Ash Wednesday.

Could you imagine the outcry-- or the fodder as Republicans say who blame Obama for creating the controversy-- if President Obama said he wasn't going to attend his Christian faith's ceremony and even called it not a holy obligation.

Move Over George Bush, Gingrich Now Most Disliked

There's one Republican who is probably happy with how the Republican Primary is going: George W. Bush.

Since Newt Gingrich has skyrocketed into that party's front-runner status on at least two occasions now, Newt has also won the distinction of being the most disliked politician in America.  A title that used to belong to fellow Republican and President, George Bush.

Dog On Man: Mitt Romney Handed A Stunning Triple Digit Defeat At Westminster Dog Show GOP Canine Caucus

Contributed by Michael Matthew Bloomer while enjoying Purina's Bacon favored Beggin Strips with our stalwart canine, Antigone.

As if he didn't have enough problems Mitt Romney lost to Newt Gingrich in the Westminster Dog Show Republican Straw Poll last Tuesday night. The canine's only GOP caucus convened immediately after the crowning of Malachy the Pekingese as best canine in show and rejected Mr. Romney with finality.

As stunning as Malachy's Westminster best in show win was, Romney's loss was far more breathtaking. His triple digit loss stunned and satisfied Republican canines who, before caucusing, had just finished competing in the world famous Westminster show, the 136th. Here's the certified results:

Newt Gingrich       66%   250 votes
Ron Paul                22%      84    "
Rick Santorum      12%      46    "
Mitt Romney            0%       0    "
With Westminster Republican dogs of all breeds voting against Mr. Romney, it's his first triple digit defeat in the campaign, thus far.  This GOP crowd, after two hours of alternately caucusing and sniffing rear ends, voted unanimously when they put paw to ballot around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. Soon thereafter, the announcement of "zero for Romney" rang out in the expansive meeting room. Even the gleeful yelping of Dogs Against Romney protesters assembled outside could be heard within the hall.

Let there be no doubt, this indicates that this assemblage of  highfalutin Westminster pooches of pooches have not forgiven the infamous 1983 summer family vacation wherein Mr. Romney caged Seamus, the family pooch, to the top of the car for the 12-hour trip.

"I Love Bacon, I Hate Romney"

Mitt tried to get out of the dog house of his own making. Speaking to the yapping and often growling crowd before the balloting, Romney tried again to assure all within sniffing distance that Seamus "enjoyed" the 1983 "experience." He added, off the cuff, that the departed Seamus would have "loved riding on top of our campaign bus as much as our present family dog does." It's likely Mr. Romney now regrets that last phrase; upon hearing that, many caucusers, particularly among the Santorum contingent, had to be restrained by their human assistants.

As the final vote made clear, his attempted excuses failed to garner him a single vote. Even among the most conservative GOP dog breeds, like the the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Romney was as popular as a cat in a punch bowl. Tea Partiers peed on the rug. And, among the small number of moderate Republican canines, well here's their organizer and spokescanine, Chuck:
"Go ahead, I dares ya'
say 'Romney' again!"

It's A Doggone Life!

Mr. Romney left the gathering quickly and headed to Michigan for his next primary test. Can he win there? In a state known for dog ownership (over two million)? Westminster Dog Show Republicans from Michigan, and from the remaining primary states, feel their influence on the voting members of their families has had, and will continue to have, a major negative impact on Romney's chances. Note that 65% of U.S. families enjoy the influence of a dog as a family member. Also note that Mr. Romney has rarely earned more primary or caucus votes than the percentage (approx. 25-35%) of non-dog families in each state thus far. Coincidence?

Mark their barks, these activist canines may be a "hidden weapon" for a non-Romney primary candidate. If so, the results at Westminster point to more success for a candidate named Gingrich, a dog lover and imitator. We'll see. WOOF!

Visualizing Romney's "Safety Net" For The Poor

Contributed by Michael Bloomer while locked in a closet by his beloved wife, Sue

In a fit of what can only be viewed as overconfidence after his win in the Florida primary last week, Mitt Romney accidentally told the truth on CNN the day after his win. His signal - in every sense of the word - quote:
"I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it."
The simple fact is, of course, that Governor Romney has endorsed draconian budget cuts that would rip that net to shreds. He also spent a great deal of time at Bain Capital as a financial finagler hatching deals that fairly often added to the "very poor" population.

In his remarkable quote, too, he demonstrates what everyone on the left has known all along, and what even the right wing of the GOP is now realizing:  Mitt Romney believes that the "safety net" is a good enough place to be. He simply has no informed sense that life in the safety net is desperate, heartbreaking, and usually inescapable. In this, Romney is aristocratically tempered;  he's not merely tone deaf, he's stone deaf. Stone deaf to nearly 20% of the population is not a good characteristic in a United States President, particularly as we move ever closer to the edge of a revolutionary precipice.

Romney, though, is utterly astounding, in a very bad way. He's banal. Unlike Newt, there's, nothing fancy about him, nothing Gingrichian in rabidness. Unlike Paul or Santorum, Mitt's boring about the poverty thing, he simply cannot think "poor," cannot will up legitimate or sincere concern.

Wondering about that attribute the other day, I put together my image of what Romney - and the other GOP candidates - might actually conceive as a laissez faire "safety net." Gazing through the lens of their dog eat dog world view, it's a dark image indeed.

Newt's Very Good Day: Trump Endorses Romney!

Contributor Michael M. Bloomer wrote this in bed.

And we think we've got troubles? Consider for a moment the plight of Mitt Romney, the once nearly presumptive 2012 GOP Presidential candidate. Not so nearly presumptive lately despite his big win over Newt Gingrich in last Tuesday's Florida primary. Mitt's been roughed up lately. His comments about the "very poor" have been grist for the journalistic mill for both left and right. From Reverend Al to Limbaugh. Now that's bipartisan. Added to his more and more criticized ties to Bain Capital, and his 2011 income taxes (so very reluctantly released for examination),  Mitt's in a funk of decline ever nearer the defeat from the jaws of victory zone.

And now!  Now, when he needs a break, fer God's sake, here comes the Clown Pope of New York, Donald Trump, erecting his Las Vegas circus tent to celebrate his tapping of Mitt Romney as his favored one! Ut serve. For Romney, now identified more closely than ever with the upper 1% of the upper 1% of moneybags, Trump's sponsorship can only make that even worse for him, much worse. And imagine the Romney camp trying doing fire brigade for both Romney and Trump? Wow! Fasten your seat belts! Worst endorsement ever?

How does Mitt really feel about this, one wonders?

And could even Newt's oddball imagination imagine that today would be such a very good day?
