How the GOP Saved Itself and Made Mormons Christians
I have no problems admitting that I believe Mormonism is not part of the Christian church and that many sects in the Mormon church are very much cults. I've said this numerous times all over this site and stand by it. My opinion of course.
I'm not alone in this regard either. Up until just a few days ago, the most famous pastor in America, Billy Graham, agreed with me. Except he was probably much more vocal and much more incendiary against the Mormon church than me. He actually labeled Mormonism as a cult on his God-ordained website. I'm not a pastor or anywhere near a self-proclaimed man of God like Graham [but the Fold Blog is ordained by God]. I simply have an opinion on the subject. Whereas he's a leading cleric of the Christian faith. He is the authority on the matter. And he labeled Mormonism a cult-- a cult that was not based on Christianity. Pretty strong stuff.
This posed a problem for Graham and his political party the GOP. Republicans like Graham have longed believed that they are the chosen leaders of this country. A vote for them is a vote for Jesus and the Bible. But a huge problem occurred. The leader of their political party and the man they are voting for is Mormon. Yikes! The leader of their blessed GOP is a Mormon who believes God lives on Planet Kolob, the Garden of Eden is in Missouri and wears magic underwear. What to do??
Simple really. Just remove Mormonism from your list of cults on your website. Wham bam it's done. So now voting for Mitt Romney is just the same as voting for Richard Nixon or George W. Bush, you know God's plan for America.
Yet that doesn't tell us the whole story. It's more than just a simple deletion of some text from a website that has saved the GOP from God's wrath. What they are doing is completely rewriting the requirements of Christianity. And it's all based on abortion and marriage equality. As we all know, those are the only two issues Jesus ever spoke about.

Getting Knocked Up From Legitimate Rape
Here we are America. It's late 2012 and we are actually having a Very Serious discussion about whether or not women who become pregnant from rape should be forced by the government to carry and deliver the rape baby.
Actually that's oversimplifying it. The reason we are having this Very Serious discussion is because one of the major national political parties that currently enjoys shared power of the federal government and all its laws believes that not forcing the woman to carry and deliver the baby is going against the Will of God.
Yes America, it's 2012 and who are any of us to question God's Will.

It's Not Just Akin's Opinion, It Is the GOP's Platform
It's important to note that Todd Akin's brutally stupid comments about rape and pregnancy are not merely his personal opinions, or that of his religion or his district. Banning all abortions even in cases of rape and incest is the official platform of the Republican Party. It's so much part of their ideology and so important to them that the GOP has listed amending the Constitution to fit Akin's comments as a priority for the nation.
The official platform of the GOP is exactly what Akin professed. He isn't the exception or a lone nut case. In fact Republicans want to amend the Constitution to make Akin's views the law of the land.

Going up on CNN this morning, RNC communications director Sean Spicer said the Party's endorsement of a ban on all abortions for their 2012 Tampa Convention does not mean it opposes exceptions to rape or incest. He said the platform is simply an indication that the GOP is "pro-life." Adding anything else to it is false he claimed.
Spicer also said the platform item should not be read as a piece of legislation either. As Pema Levy makes note, such a suggestion from Spicer that the platform doesn't necessarily oppose exceptions is brand spanking new. Even the former head of the GOP, Michael Steele, said as recently as yesterday the platform adopted this week for the convention does not make exceptions for rape or incest.
Here's the language of the platform: "Faithful to the 'self-evident' truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed." We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."
Yeah I don't know how you can read that and not conclude the GOP supports a Constitutional Amendment to ban abortion. As far as exceptions, it states clearly that the "right to life cannot be infringed."

Rape Me
Following up from below, something else that is entirely getting lost in Akin's GOP rape talk is by saying in cases of "legitimate rape" women have a way of shutting down the whole reproductive process in order to prevent pregnancy, is saying that the ones who do become pregnant obviously enjoyed their rape scene and didn't bother telling their minds to tell their vaginas to shut it all down. And therefore, since they enjoyed the carnage they got pregnant and it's not real rape just loose un-Biblical women. There's really something not right with him or people who think like him.
Men Lie Too
There's so much going on with the controversy surrounding Todd Akin and the GOP's barbaric platform on social views that I think a lot of really important items get overlooked in the hassle. For instance, in Akin's attempt to clarify his horrible and scientifically inaccurate statements about rape and pregnancy, he said this: [I was] making the point that there were people who use false claims, like those that basically created Roe v. Wade." Meaning women can sometimes lie about being raped just to get an abortion. While true in very rare cases, so can men. They lie all the time about not raping women. So why can't we regulate male reproductive rights? Oh that's right, they're men.
This whole thing is about controlling with government what Republicans perceive to be immoral sexual behavior of women. It's the 16th century still to them. They use the Bible as back up and insist they get their moral policing from a higher power. Right after they dry themselves off from a drunken skinny dipping plunge in the Sea of Galilee during their Christian pilgrimage to showcase their righteousness to the world, that is. They're insane And anyone who believes them is retarded.
