Remember all the garbage Michelle Obama went through, and still is going through, for saying that she's finally proud of her country? Yeah, I can't imagine why a black person would have any animosity towards the great USA at all. It's not like her ancestors were stolen, thrown onto slave ships, denied freedom, governed by Jim Crow and then finally once given equal rights told never to bring up the past and to just get on with their lives. It's a good thing she has so much to be proud of finally.
Well Fox News still loves to run that clip of Michelle Obama stating her newfound love for her country. Super Tough Guy Bill O'Reilly routinely mentions that Michelle's words are troubling for someone wanting to be president or the First Lady. And über patriot Sean Hannity goes out of his way constantly to bring up Michelle's words. This one sentence by Michelle is enough for the right wing to want to convince the public that the Obama's don't love America. How extremely ethical of them. There's no bias, it's an exact quote from Michelle, never mind the context or the background.
But what happens when the Maverick and Republican candidate for president tells Sean Hannity right on Fox News that he "didn't really love America?" Fox News completely removes McCain's quote from the transcript. That's what happens. Never to be seen again. Or what happens when McCain, in a town hall meeting where he's supposed to be on his A-game without a teleprompter remember, tells a citizen that it's tough to be proud of this country? Not a mention by Fox News about any of it. Not only do they completely remove McCain's words from the transcript on their very own program, there's no O'Reilly constantly running the footage of McCain decrying that it's tough to be proud of America or that he never really loved America. There's no Sean Hannity begging his viewers to realize that this latest move by McCain has to be enough to "end him politically" like he often does Obama. Fox News wipes the board clean for McCain. No other news organization picks it up. Drudge isn't linking to it. The drug addicted Limbaugh isn't given the right wing talking points about it. It never happened in the Republican Fantasy World. McCain, simply because he's Republican (at least this week he is), gets overlooked not once but twice for saying the very same thing that Michelle Obama said.
Is there a different standard? Yeah, there's a different standard all right. There's a different world. One world is full of Fox News viewers and right wing revisionists and the other world sits back and lets it happen. What could I possibly say to defend anyone that removed Michelle's words from a transcript? But the right wing will have plenty of reasons why it's perfectly ethical for Fox News to do it for McCain.
