If Republicans really cared about public finance laws and really cared about honest political campaigns, their 527 swiftboaters would follow suit.
After Barack backed out of public financing, which Republicans have always hated, now they want equal footing to raise money. Since McCain can't possibly match Obama on individual donations, I don't see how the GOP will close down its 527s. It's really the only way they can compete. In other words, public financing and the McCain-Feingold Act become the GOP's best friend. And becomes the standard they also want Obama to abide by-- a standard they've long called un-Constitutional.
